Iron Removal.
Designed Around Your Water.
Custom water treatment for iron staining, discoloration, and related filtration needs. We evaluate your water chemistry, plumbing, and demand before recommending a system.
What Is Iron Removal Filtration?
Iron removal treatment reduces iron in water before it reaches fixtures, appliances, or downstream equipment. The treatment approach depends on whether the iron is dissolved, already present as particles, or associated with other water conditions.
A system may combine oxidation, contact time, and backwashing filtration. Selecting equipment starts with understanding the water—not simply choosing a tank size.
Find the Source Before Choosing the Filter.
Iron-related problems can involve the water supply, plumbing corrosion, or several conditions at once.
Dissolved Iron
Water may initially appear clear and develop color as iron oxidizes. Treatment may require oxidation followed by appropriate filtration.
Oxidized Iron & Particles
Rust-colored particles may already be present. Filtration must match the particle load, flow requirements, and maintenance needs.
Plumbing & Other Conditions
Corroding plumbing or conditions such as manganese and iron bacteria may require a different response. A filter alone may not resolve the underlying cause.
How an Iron Removal System Works.
A common approach combines the stages below. Your system may use a different configuration based on the test results.
Oxidize
Where needed, an appropriate oxidation method converts dissolved iron into a form that can be captured by filtration.
Allow Contact
Some treatment methods need contact time. Retention requirements depend on the chemistry and selected process.
Filter
Selected filtration media captures the resulting particles at a service flow appropriate for the application.
Backwash
Automatic backwashing removes accumulated material. The water supply and drain must support the required backwash flow.
The Water Analysis Shapes the System.
A filter needs to handle both the water chemistry and the property’s demand. We review the information needed to select the treatment method, media, vessel size, and operating settings.
Key Design Factors
- Iron concentration and form.
- pH and related water chemistry.
- Manganese, odors, and other treatment concerns.
- Peak service flow and daily water demand.
- Available pressure and backwash capacity.
- Drainage, electrical supply, and installation space.
- Existing equipment and ongoing maintenance needs.
From Individual Homes to Larger Facilities.
Residential Water
Treatment for properties with confirmed iron concerns, planned around household demand, plumbing layout, and available installation space.
Commercial Water
Systems designed around facility flow, operating schedules, water quality targets, and access for service and maintenance.
Equipment Pretreatment
Iron reduction considered as part of a larger treatment system to help manage fouling of downstream equipment.
Iron Removal Questions, Answered.
Will a sediment cartridge remove iron?
A sediment cartridge may capture iron particles already present in the water. It generally does not address dissolved iron on its own. Testing helps determine whether oxidation, specialized media, or another approach is needed.
Can a water softener remove iron?
Some softeners can handle limited amounts of dissolved iron under suitable conditions. Iron can also foul softening resin. Whether a softener is appropriate depends on the water analysis and equipment specifications.
Does orange staining always mean I need an iron filter?
No. Staining can originate in the water supply or from plumbing corrosion. If discoloration affects only hot water or one fixture, investigating that part of the plumbing is especially important.
Will the same system remove manganese or sulfur odors?
Some treatment methods can address more than one concern, but performance depends on the contaminants, their concentrations, pH, and system design. We evaluate these conditions before recommending a combined approach.
What maintenance does an iron removal system need?
Maintenance depends on the treatment process. It can include checking backwash operation, cleaning components, servicing pretreatment, replenishing chemicals when used, and replacing media when needed.
What should I send to request an evaluation?
Send your city, water source, a description of the problem, any recent water test results, and photos of the plumbing and installation area. For commercial projects, include available flow requirements and operating schedules.
